Wijk bij Duurstede – Art city with many faces
Where the Nederrijn splits into the Lek and the Kromme Rijn, you’ll find Wijk bij Duurstede. This city has a long history and was known in the Middle Ages as Dorestad, one of the most important trading centres in Europe. Wijk bij Duurstede has a beautiful old town with many cultural and historical attractions, a cosy town centre with nice shops, galleries and lovely terraces and restaurants.
Cothen – Discover Cothen from above
Cothen is a village on the Kromme Rijn. Soak up the history on a stroll through this village. The old part of the village, including Brink and Dorpstraat and the old standard fruit orchard, is a protected townscape. Its defining features are the church tower of the St. Peter and Paul Church, Rhijnestein Castle and the ‘Oog in ’t Zeil’ tower mill.
Langbroek – Ribbon of Castles
Langbroek is known for its beautiful castles along the Langbroekerwetering. The castles of Hindersteyn, Lunenburg, Sandenburg, Walenburg, Weerdesteyn, Zuilenburg and Poortgebouw Groenesteijn are all privately owned. Take a walking or cycling tour along the Langbroekerwetering to get a wonderful view of these little gems interspersed with pretty farms.
